In 1989 the Memorial Medical Center (MMC) Foundation was incorporated with a mission of ensuring that the people of southern New Mexico had access to quality healthcare close to home. As a result of Memorial Medical Center becoming a privately owned facility, the Healthcare Foundation of Southern New Mexico (HFNM) was formed in 2004. On January 1, 2011, the Healthcare Foundation of Southern New Mexico merged into the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico. This history is briefly outlined below:
