FIRST STEP CENTER

 Although First Step Center is a separate 501(c)(3) organization, the Healthcare Foundation of Southern New Mexico (formerly Memorial Medical Center) manages endowments for First Step.  In addition, the building housing First Step Center is owned by the Healthcare Foundation.  As a result of a major campaign totaling $6.4 million by the Healthcare Foundation, a 29,000 square foot facility was constructed for use by the First Step Center.

History:  The Women's Health Clinic of First Step Center was opened by Memorial Medical Center in 1989 in response to a crisis in our community.  Two years later in 1991, the Pediatric Clinic was opened to expand services to include children.  From the beginning, First Step Center has been committed to providing high quality preventive healthcare services for those who can least afford it, most of whom are uninsured and generally are the most vulnerable in our community.
