SUPPORTING ORGANIZATION:
THE HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION
OF SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO
At one time, those individuals who wished to remain significantly involved in charitable giving began a private foundation. Now, many people are selecting a supporting organization structure with a community foundation.
Administrative and reporting burdens of private foundations as well as excise taxes and payout requirements are disadvantages that exist with a private foundation. Supporting organization status gives an organization many of the advantages of a private foundation.
A supporting organization has its own board of trustees and makes many of its own decisions. Gifts to a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico are fully tax deductible as allowed by law.
Currently, the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico has one (1) supporting organization, the Healthcare Foundation of Southern New Mexico (HFSNM).
The following is a brief overview of the HFSNM's Year 2007 total assets, grants awarded and overview of endowments:
• The assets of the HFSNM totaled $ 9,328,445.00 on December 31, 2007.
• Grants from the HFSNM to health-related programs and services totaled $ 124,682.00.
• At December 31, 2007, the principal of endowments totaled $2,743,624. Income distributed from the endowments managed by the HFSNM in the Year 2007 totaled $89,397.65.

The following are permanent funds (endowments) managed by The Healthcare Foundation. On an annual basis the Board of Trustees of The Healthcare Foundation approves the distributable income for the purpose designated in the endowment agreement.
