A key purpose of the foundation is to build permanent funds - endowments - benefiting from the transfer of wealth from one generation to the next, estimated at approximately $40 trillion over th next 50 years.

Our community foundation at a glance . . .

Established in the year 2000, the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico is one of nearly 700 community foundations in the United States today. We serve southern New Mexico, offering people a variety of ways to touch our community through philanthropic giving.

Community Foundations are unique. Unlike single cause organizations, community foundations exist to improve the entire community. They do this by serving donors, advancing philanthropy and supporting nonprofit organizations. From that work, they acquire extensive knowledge of their communities. Community foundations understand what makes their communities tick: the nature of need, the forces of change, the availability of resources, and capacity of growth. Community foundations know how to assess community needs, evaluate programs and proposals, invest resources, and monitor results. Community foundtaions use the knowledge to help connect people who care with causes that matter.
