The 8th Annual J. Paul Taylor Social Justice Symposium
Quality of Life as Social Justice
March 25 - March 26, 2012
Las Cruces
The J. Paul Taylor Social Justice Symposium is devoted each year to an issue of concern to the state and region. The overarching goal of the symposium is to further increase the relevance of New Mexico's land grant institution by providing opportunities for NMSU and larger community members to share information, learn from one another, and develop shared strategies.
In 2012 and 2013, the Symposium is focusing on improving quality of life for all who live in Doña Ana County.
The free two-day symposium will be held:
Sunday, March 25, 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Court Youth Center
Monday March 26 at Corbett Center (3rd floor) on the NMSU campus
(Meals and registration materials will be provided.)
DAY 1 Overview: The first day will focus on understanding local problems, especially economic hardship, its causes and consequences. We will use statistics, mapping and participatory exercises, and listen to various constituencies within Doña Ana County about their lived experiences and their challenges.
Day 2 Overview: The second day will identify concrete strategies to rethink our challenges, promote resilience, and address vulnerabilities. On both days we will invite engagement among all participants to work on our collective challenges for the coming year.
